WHAT IS A BALLOT PETITION?
WHY SHOULD I SIGN IT?

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to carry a petition and to everyone who has signed a petition.

FACTS - if we do not gather enough signatures for candidates, there will be no one on the ballot! Civics is no longer taught in our schools & for many Americas there is a gap in understanding how government works and how people appear on our ballots.

We know it's not fun being approached with a clipboard, but we aren't asking for you to endorse anyone. We are only asking that you will partake in the final step of building a ballot in our democratic process... this is how names make it onto the ballot.

The vetting process in choosing people to run for office happens all year. The fun part of interviewing, meet and greeting & debating begins in January. EVERYONE is invited to participate in this process.

You can join one of our clubs (Uptown Community Democrats & Inwood Indivisible) or volunteer with Senator Robert Jackson, or you can just follow along. It's up to you to decide how involved you want to be! There are over 900 members of UCD & Inwood Indi, combined, in Northern Manhattan - and we all work together with Robert Jackson to find and vet candidates for the ballot. We welcome you to join in the entire process and get a better understanding of how our government works.

If you do not have time to participate, you can identify a local elected official, like Robert Jackson, and you can trust him and his team to vet the candidates for you.

By the time volunteers and candidates are asking for your signature, the vetting process is complete. The people who are listed ON THE GREEN  BALLOT PETITION SHEET are out on the street collecting signatures along with the volunteers. You should be able to ask them questions, if needed, before signing - remember you are not ENDORSING these candidates. You are just declaring that people have the right to run for office.
