YOUR VOTE FOR US...

... WAS A VOTE FOR UNITY! THANK YOU FOR VOTING FOR A UNITED 72ND ASSEMBLY DISTRICT! THANK YOU TO THE SIXTEEN CANDIDATES WHO RAN IN THIS YEAR'S PRIMARY, AND THE 100+ ENGAGED VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED TO GET THE WORD OUT. WE ARE EXCITED FOR OUR NEXT CHALLENGE!

WHY WE ALL NEED TO VOTE!

YOUR COMMUNITY ACTION - VOTING - MADE OUR SCHOOLS STRONGER AND WILL HELP INCREASE FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY SERVICES THAT OUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS HAVE BEEN MISSING OUT ON. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO VOTE.

WHAT WAS IMPORTANT ABOUT THIS ELECTION?

BECAUSE OF THE LOW VOTER TURNOUT IN OUR LOCAL ELECTIONS, THE NUMBER OF JUDICIAL DELEGATES REPRESENTING US HAS BEEN REDUCED FROM WHAT WAS ALREADY A COUNTY LOW OF 11, TO AN ASTONISHING NEW LOW OF 8. JUDICIAL DELEGATES ARE THE PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE NEW YORK STATE SUPREME COURT JUSTICES, AND WE NOW HAVE "HALF THE REPRESENTATION" THAT SOME MANHATTAN DISTRICTS BELOW 96TH STREET HAVE! (MORE ON THIS TOPIC)

THE 2024 UNITY TEAM IS PROUDLY ENDORSED BY:

DELEGATES TO THE JUDICIAL CONVENTION

WHAT IS A JUDICIAL DELEGATE?

A person who is elected to help select the Democratic nominees for State Supreme Court, which has jurisdiction over felony cases in NYC and high-dollar civil cases. If a delegate is absent from the judicial convention, then an alternate serves in their place.

ALTERNATE DELEGATES TO THE JUDICIAL CONVENTION

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ELECTION:
(A note from Paul)

June 23, 2024

Dear Neighbor,

There is a Primary Election is this week: Tuesday, June 25th. You can find your polling location at findmypollsite.vote.nyc

We are asking you to please vote for:

• Delegate to the Judicial Convention: Group beginning with Elizabeth Pepin

• Alternate Delegate to the Judicial Convention: Group beginning with Lyana Fernandez

Why is it important to vote for your Judicial Delegates? It’s an important local Democratic Party position, an unpaid volunteer, responsible for selecting the candidates who appear on the November ballot as Judges. These judges, if elected, will serve on the NYS Supreme Court and make significant decisions on civil and felony cases. By voting, you contribute to a judiciary that upholds democracy, humanity, integrity, and fairness.

Supporting our slate of delegates ensures that elected judges are evaluated and supported based on their merits, judicial temperament, and experience. Party bosses from other parts of Manhattan can’t trade their support for a favored candidate for our support. Our endorsed judicial delegates ensure that the democratic process continues up through the Judicial Convention in August when the candidates for elected Judge are endorsed.

Voting in Primaries increases the weight of our community’s voice in the candidate selection process! Our 72nd Assembly District, covering parts of Washington Heights and Inwood, has the lowest Democratic Party voter turnout in Manhattan. Only 15,465 (22.8%) of Democrats showed up to vote for the Democratic candidate for Governor in 2022. That is 10-percentage points LESS than our neighboring 71st Assembly District, which also covers parts of Washington Heights and Inwood.

Because of the low voter turnout in our local elections, the number of Judicial Delegates representing us has been reduced from what was already a county low of 11, to an astonishing new low of 8. Judicial Delegates are the people who choose New York State Supreme Court Justices, and we now have half the representation that some Manhattan districts below 96th street have!

Don’t forget to vote!

Sincerely,
Paul Stewart-Stand
